The princes of Pandava enter a long period of exile in which they wonder into the forest with Draupadi. They come across the Brahmins and told them about their situation stating, "Our kingdom is lost to us," he said, "and our fortune; everything is lost; we depart in sorrow, and must live on fruits and roots and the produce of the chase. In the woods are many perils — many reptiles and hungry wild animals seeking their prey." The Brahmins listened and said that rajah should pray to the sun god. They listened and the god of the sun ended up appearing. The Pandavas and Draupadi lived in the woods with the Brahmins for 12 years.
