Week 6 Story: Love At First Sight

Their journey continued and they wandered through the forest. Bhima, being super protective, would watch over his mother and brother while they slept to ensure they were safe and at peace. This meant that Bhima would rarely sleep because he would always be watching over his mother and brothers. On a dark and humid night, a rakshasa made his way near Bhima and his family. His name was Hidimba and him and his sister were wondering through the forest. He told his sister, Hidimbi, that he “smelled humans !!” They were extremely hungry so the smell of humans excited them and forced them towards the smell. He said that he would kill the human and enjoy their feast. Bhima had no idea that Hidimba and Hidimbi were near and he was just watching his family as usual. Hidimba and his sister made their way towards the smell. They finally reached to where Bhima and his family were. As soon as Hidimbi locked eyes with Bhima she instantely feel in love. She got butterflys in her stomach and completely forgot what she was supposed to be doing. Her brother nudged her shoulder and whispered in her ear “Focus.” Bhima and Hidimbi’s brother fought. Hidimba tried to kill Bhima but Hidimbi just watched. She couldn’t take seeing Bhima die she was in love with him and wanted to be with him. She used her super powers and protected Bhima but ended up killing her brother. This didn’t seem to bother Hidimbi since she was so in love. Bhima and Hidimbi got married and had a son named Ghatotkacha. Their love story was not your typical love story however they remained married for years and had a great family together. Hidimbi didn’t regret what she did to her brother because she couldn’t see Bhima get killed.

Authors Note: I used Tiny Tale 54 from Mahabharata as my source for this story. I added details to the story to make it longer and more interesting. I made the story feel like more of a love story.

  1. Hi Sarah! I love that you expanded the original story, but it makes me even more intrigued to learn more - it would be so cool if you went into more detail about Hidimba's feelings during the fight when he realizes his sister is not helping and more about Bhima and Hidimbi's atypical love life. I think there is a lot of potential here!

  2. Hi Sarah! I really like how you expanded upon the original story! If you ever decide to go back and revise this story, I think it would be really interesting to learn Bhima's thoughts about how his new wife killed her brother to save him, and to learn if he loves her as much as she loves him. Other than that, I really enjoyed your story!!

  3. Hey Sarah! I really liked how you made this story a love story, it definitely made it really interesting. I What was Tiny tale 54 from Mahabharata about ? One suggestion I would make is adding a little more information about the original story in the authors note. I think you did job of adding dialogue it made it an engaging story. Keep up the great work!

  4. Hey (again) Sarah! It's cool that you expanded one of the tiny tales, especially adding the elements of a love story to it. The idea that the rakshasas aren't exclusively evil is one that I find very interesting; maybe if you come back to this story you could expand on how different Hidimbi is/was from her brother? The only thing I'd change is perhaps adding a bit of dialogue, but that can be tricky when you're trying to be concise. Great work, either way!
